Semi-evil professors and Poem

So, its definitely the week before spring break and there is no doubt that there are a million assignments due. This week is going to suck. I have a math test, a pig practical exam (Labeling the body parts of the pig) and a biology exam. Plus, there is a lot of busy work; random assignments that I have to turn in. Why do teachers like to assign everything at the same time? I know that a lot of professors do not like to assign tests right after break because they are afraid students are not going to remember anything, but I feel like assigning them before the break is even worse. EVERY professor does this and it is certainly not going to yield high grades on tests because during the week, students are too busy scrambling and figuring out what to study first and last. Not to mention, I am SO TIRED! February SUCKS! During these four weeks, I have had a test every week and I have a list of at least 10 assignments before my week is over. I have no weekends anymore because its "catch up" time. But anyway, enough of my ranting, here is the poem that we did in class.

The Phrase is "Just Believe"

You have everything you need, if you just believe.
Give your dreams the wings to fly
Only Girl in the Sixties Cowsill Family
I don't know that we will go all the way this year
Jackson just lay down
Patrick looked confused
"Working Class Hero,"
Grand Slams to even more extra-marital affairs
Browse and shop related looks.
A few words from our clients.
The theme of this season is entitled We Believe in ...
That you're never gonna use your star
It's not that medicines are 'crummy,' but that placebos are so powerful.
And give your dreams the wings to fly. You have everything you need.
Buy Just Believe It for just $9.99.
You aren't a fairy in disguise, ... We don't want to upset her further by making her think we don't believe her
Nature always takes you at your own valuation
Feeling so pressure again. enough is enough, Believe me or not...

This makes absolutely no sense at all. But ENJOY your breaks! I am definitely excited to go home! I miss my family and friends. =]

A Random Creative Writing Story

Topics Chosen:

Setting
: Sunday School classroom
Details: Kiddie Pool (?!)
Character: First kid to attend college in his family
Audience: Was intended for children, but after picking the topic, its general.

Okay so, I tried my best. It is very boring and makes absolutely no sense but I guess this is what I came up with based on my constraints.

The teacher screeches the chalk on the blackboard. He diagrams the family tree of Abraham, something that I have learned since I was a little kid. His voice is very monotone, yet appealing when he gets very excited. It’s been about a half an hour now and I can feel myself starting to daydream. I start to lose focus on what he is saying. I am a college student. My attention span is short, but I think I can still remember at least some things that people say to me. I still attend Sunday school to help teach the little kids at our local church. I grew up in a religious family, so when I see these little kids, I see myself as well. You can tell that they are bored, and like most children, they have been forced to attend Sunday school to hopefully prepare them for what they will encounter in life. Their ages range around five or six, so they do not understand the significance of why they are here. They would much rather jump inside a kiddie pool and play outside in the lovely summer weather.

Speaking of kiddie pools, I just became an uncle about 2 years ago, and my brother got my niece, Anna, a little kiddie pool this past weekend. I am on summer vacation and my parent’s house is not so far from his. Every since my break started, we would eat lunch and spend time together every weekend. My niece is very cute. She is well raised and unlike other babies, she doesn’t cry as much; which is surprising since my brother was a big cry baby even when he’s older than me. I remember when I left for college at Virginia Tech; which was about 5 hours away. He couldn’t stop bawling his eyes out because I was the first to actually attend a prestigious university. My bother only attended a community college and the furthest he has gone was 10 miles away from our house.

Anyway, so this past weekend, I went over to his house and he had a kiddie pool set up. The water came up to my ankles and the pool itself was made up with inflatables. There were little beach toys lying around, so I am guessing he was trying to come up with a “beach setting”, but obviously it failed since this pool was in his backyard. I went over to play with my little niece, but then all of a sudden, a rabbit came in to the backyard and…

“Alex? Alex? Can you please pass out the worksheets?”

The Love/Hate Relationship with Valentine's Day

This past week sucked.
  • A 500 word discussion for Women's Studies
  • 250 journal response for Women's Studies
  • Response to discussion board for Women's Studies (I am not very fond of this class)
  • Chemistry lab report
  • Chemistry pre-lab report
  • English Blog
  • ARIS chemistry homework
  • Math exam 1
  • Math quiz 3
  • Biology pre-lab quiz
  • First Biology Exam.
All due by/on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. So Basically that leaves Thursday-Saturday free..kind of. But anyways, this blog is about Valentines Day.

So when all of this was happening in my life, my roommate participated in the Secret Valentine program that was conducted by her church. Throughout the week, she spent numerous hours decorating, making cards, buying flowers, and buying gifts to surprise her secret valentine. I have to admit. I love Valentine's Day, but it also really does suck. All that planning, money, and time that is put into this holiday is intense. Almost every single day of the week, she received chocolates, flowers, bears, cards and I thought that was really sweet. Seeing all of this has made me question what I am going to get for valentines day. My boyfriend Albert, who also goes to VT, told me that he has a surprise install for me, but I couldn't wait until Sunday for it to be revealed! I kept nagging him and he kept joking, you are thinking too much, there's no surprise anymore! Finally, I started to hate Valentine's Day because I was frustrated in what I was going to get him!

When Sunday finally rolled around, I woke up and just laid in bed for the longest time. My roommate kept asking me, "Emily, don't you need to go pee." I kept saying "No" because I really did not have to go. As she started to head out to go to church service, I saw a balloon in front of our door. I immediately got really excited and jumped out of bed. When I opened the door, there were post-its everywhere with messages that my boyfriend wrote. I was very excited and my roommate kept laughing at me because the whole week, I was bitter with her getting so much Valentine's gifts and I was just hiding in my room doing homework. She told me that she tried to get me to go to sleep the night before and as I was sleeping, Albert came over to our dorm at like 3:00 am to decorate. After I found the surprise, Albert came over to give me flowers and we spent the whole day eating lunch and seeing a movie together.

I have a very bittersweet feeling about Valentine's Day now. The planning and the hard work and takes up so much time. However, in the end, it is definitely worth it to see the person you spend it with be so surprised!

Reminising the 90's.

Well, I guess this week we have all been pumped up about the snow, but I thought since I already blogged about the snow, it would be very unoriginal to blog about it again. However, I must add that I am extremely jealous of NOVA right now because they got 30 inches of snow. That is more than two feet! It seems like after our class leaves high school, all the amazing things start to happen. I mean, 30 inches of snow? How often do we get to see that in our lifetime?! I told my parents to take some pictures, but I doubt that the feeling would be the same as compared to actually being there. But anyways, this post is about the 90's.

No one really talks about the 90's but I feel like sometimes its really nice to rethink back to when we were kids and compare how life was then as compared to now. So, lets see how much you guys remember! Here's a list of things that came in my mind.

  • Pop groups/Singers! (Nsync', Backstreet Boys, Destiny's Child, No Secrets, O'Town, 98 degrees, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and many more)
  • CD's , The first CD players, cassette tapes
  • VCR players
  • Rollerblades!
  • Plastic cartoon lunchboxes
  • POWER RANGERS

  • Collecting Beanie Babies!
  • Shoes with flashing lights on the heals, shoes with Velcro
  • Bill Nye the Science Guy!
  • Paper Fortune tellers
  • The only thing interesting on the computer was "Paint"
  • The emergence of the scooter
  • Zany Brany
  • Nintendo 64'

  • Scrunchies!

  • Beetle Juice, Even Stevens, Lizzie Mcguire, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Sister, Sister, Full House, Recess, Rugrats
Can you guys think of anymore? There are numerous other things out there but for now, these are all the things I can think of. Doesn't it make you want to go back to the 90's? Of course, there weren't any ipods, cell phones, or laptops then, but it was so much fun going outside and playing all day. It is quite amazing how much a decade, well, two decades now, can change us. All of this does not seem like it happen 20 years ago. It seems like now I have totally lost track of what was back then, how the world worked for us. I think I am growing old.
